Guwahati, September 1, 2026:
The 45th North East Regional Conference of Religious India (CRI) Assembly will be held from September 2 to 4, 2026, at the North East Diocesan Social Service Society (NEDSS), Guwahati, bringing together consecrated persons from across the region to reflect on the opportunities and challenges posed by digital culture for Christian mission.
The three-day annual regional gathering will be held under the theme, “Mission in the Digital Age: Consecrated Persons and the Transformative Power of Digital Culture.” The programme will focus particularly on the role of religious men and women in using digital platforms for proclamation, faith formation and communication.
The previous edition, the 44th North East Regional CRI Assembly, held from August 30 to September 1, 2025, brought together 115 participants representing 98 religious congregations from across Northeast India. The assembly reflected on consecrated life, hope and witness during the Jubilee Year 2025.
The assembly will begin on September 2 with registration at 2.00 pm, followed by the inaugural function, which will include the welcome and felicitation of newly elected major superiors and a memorial service remembering deceased members of the North East CRI.
The second day will feature a session on “Magnifica Humanitas: A Technological Overview and Challenges in the Age of Artificial Intelligence,” followed by another session on “Harnessing Social Media for Proclamation and Faith Formation: Opportunities, Challenges and Way Forward.” Participants will have an opportunity to discuss practical ways of engaging social media responsibly and effectively in the Church’s mission. The sessions will be followed by group discussions, reports from local units and an open discussion on issues and concerns related to the presence and mission of consecrated persons in Northeast India.
On September 4, the final day of the assembly, Coadjutor Archbishop Albert Hemrom of Guwahati will celebrate the Holy Eucharist. It will be his first celebration of the Eucharist in Guwahati following the announcement of his appointment as Coadjutor Archbishop. The day’s programme will also include discussions on migration and other regional concerns before the adoption of the final statements.
The assembly will also feature the presentation of activity, audit and finance reports, the launch of the North East CRI website and social media account, and the election of new executive members.
The North East CRI is one of the 14 regional bodies of the Conference of Religious India (CRI), the national body representing Catholic religious congregations in India. The North East Regional CRI is headed by Sr. Mabel Gothorp FMA as President and Sr. Teresa Joseph MSMHC as Secretary.
The North East CRI covers the seven states of Northeast India and brings together the Catholic religious community across the region, which comprises three ecclesiastical provinces, three archdioceses and 12 dioceses.
