What made the occasion particularly special was their family bond. Sr. Angela Narzary is the niece of Sr. Samoni Basumatary, who is her mother’s youngest sister. The celebration highlighted the unique blessing of two members from the same family embracing the same religious vocation and reaching the milestone of twenty-five years of consecrated life together.
The thanksgiving Mass was presided over by the President of the Northeast India Regional Bishops’ Council (NEIRBC), Archbishop John Moolachira of Guwahati. In his homily, the Archbishop reflected on the meaning of religious vocation and the significance of jubilee celebrations in consecrated life.
He noted that a jubilee is not merely a remembrance of years but a moment of gratitude for God’s fidelity. Comparing the journey of religious life to gold purified in fire, he said that challenges and sacrifices strengthen faith and deepen one’s commitment to the Lord.
“A jubilee is not the end of a journey but a renewal of commitment,” the Archbishop said, encouraging the sisters to continue their mission with courage, generosity, and trust in God.
Sr. Angela Narzary, speaking during the celebration, expressed gratitude to God for the gift of vocation and for the journey of twenty-five years in religious life. Reflecting on her vocation, she described the years as a blessed journey marked by both joy and challenges, sustained by the constant presence of the Lord.
She also recalled the unique grace of sharing the vocation with her aunt, Sr. Samoni Basumatary, who currently serves in pastoral ministry in Meghalaya. Both entered the congregation and professed their vows on June 23, 2001, at Varanasi in Uttar Pradesh.
“As I look back on these twenty-five years, I realise that every moment—whether of joy or struggle—has been part of God’s plan,” Sr. Angela said.
The celebration was attended by priests, religious sisters, pre-novices, and members of the faithful who gathered to thank God for the sisters’ dedicated service to the Church and society.
The occasion concluded with expressions of gratitude, felicitation of the jubilarians, and prayers that they may continue to serve the Church faithfully in the years ahead.
