New Delhi, July 10: The CBCI Office for Social Communications (OSC), in collaboration with the National Institute of Social Communications, Research and Training (NISCORT), will host an international symposium on "Magnifica Humanitas: Safeguarding Human Dignity in the AI Age" on July 11 at the DCC Hall in New Delhi.

Inspired by Pope Leo XIV's first encyclical, Magnifica Humanitas, the symposium will examine the ethical, pastoral, theological, and technological challenges of Artificial Intelligence. It aims to promote dialogue on ensuring that AI serves humanity while safeguarding the dignity of every human person.

The keynote address will be delivered by Dr. Nataša Govekar, Director of the Theological-Pastoral Department at the Vatican's Dicastery for Communication.  She arrived in New Delhi on Friday afternoon and was welcomed at the CBCI Centre by CBCI President Cardinal Anthony Poola, CBCI Secretary General Archbishop Anil Joseph Thomas Couto, Chairman of the CBCI Office for Social Communications Bishop Rayarala Vijayakumar, CBCI Deputy Secretary Fr. Mathew Koyickal, Secretary of the CBCI Office for Social Communications Fr. Dr. Biju Alappatt, and NISCORT Director Fr. Robinson Rodrigues.  Cardinal Poola is in the national capital for meetings with the Government of India.

The symposium will be inaugurated by CBCI Secretary General Archbishop Anil Joseph Thomas Couto, while Bishop Rayarala Vijayakumar will deliver the presidential address.

The speakers include Bishop Stephen Fernandes, Auxiliary Bishop of Bombay and other prominent members in the field. 

The day-long programme will bring together bishops, priests, religious, communication professionals, academics, seminarians, students, and media practitioners.  Discussions will focus on the responsible and ethical use of Artificial Intelligence in the light of Catholic teaching and human dignity.
