GUWAHATI, July 5, 2026 – The Diocese of Tura solemnly commemorated the second death anniversary of Late Bishop George Mamalassery, the first Bishop of Tura, with a Eucharistic celebration, the unveiling of the Bishop Mama Bust, and the dedication of “Bishop Mama Road,” honouring his enduring contribution to the growth of the local Church.

The Holy Eucharist was presided over by Bishop Andrew R. Marak and brought together clergy, religious, and faithful in prayerful remembrance of Bishop Mamalassery, whose missionary vision and pastoral leadership laid a strong foundation for the Diocese of Tura.

The occasion was also marked by joyful thanksgiving for the sixth episcopal ordination anniversary of the Auxiliary Bishop of Tura Jose Chirackal.  The faithful offered prayers of gratitude for his episcopal ministry and invoked God’s continued blessings upon his service to the Church.

A significant highlight of the day was the official naming of the road stretching from Walbakgre Junction to St. Luke Parish Church and Holy Cross Hospital as “Bishop Mama Road.”  The dedication serves as a lasting tribute to Bishop George Mamalassery’s missionary commitment and his lasting impact on the spiritual, educational, and social life of the people of the Garo Hills.

The unveiling of the Bishop Mama Bust and the inauguration of Bishop Mama Road were performed by Marcuise N. Marak, Cabinet Minister for Public Health Engineering, Soil & Water Conservation, and Housing, Government of Meghalaya, who attended the celebration as the Chief Guest.

The celebration concluded with prayers for the faithful departed and thanksgiving for the gift of episcopal ministry, inviting the faithful to remain united in their mission of proclaiming the Gospel and serving the people of God in the spirit exemplified by Bishop George Mamalassery.
