FMA (Figlie di Maria Ausiliatrice) Sister, Sr. Euginia Laloo, was conferred the SIGNIS India Lifetime Achievement Award during the Inaugural Ceremony of SINA 2026 (the SIGNIS India National Assembly), held on 14 April 2026 in the Diocese of Jalandhar, Punjab
The award, comprising a trophy and a shawl, was presented by Bishop Vijaya Kumar Rayarala, Chairman of the CBCI Office for Social Communication, along with the host Bishop Jose Sebastian Thekkumcherikunnel of Jalandhar recognising her nearly two decades of dedicated service in media ministry.
Sr. Euginia Laloo becomes the first woman from Northeast India to receive this national honour, highlighting the region’s growing contribution to the Church’s communication apostolate. A former active member of the Young Christian Students (YCS), she hails from Jowai and comes from a family of seven siblings. One of her younger brothers, Fr. Crescent Roy Laloo, serves as a priest in the Diocese of Jowai.
Alongside the Salesian Sister Euginia, representatives from Eleven other Regions across India were also honoured with the Lifetime Achievement Award, reflecting the nationwide recognition of committed communicators in the Catholic Church.
A SIGNIS member since 2011, Sr. Euginia has been engaged in promoting Gospel values, peace, and responsible media through digital and audio-visual platforms. Her work includes media education and digital literacy training across northeast.
Currently serving as Superior of Auxilium Provincial House, Shillong, Provincial Councillor, and Provincial Coordinator for Social Communication, she has played a key role in strengthening communication initiatives within her congregation and the wider Church. She also serves on the Executive Team of the CRI Shillong Unit.
She has co-authored three volumes on the history of the FMA in Northern India (1923–1983), as well as All in the Family. Her contributions also include editing the provincial newsletter FMAINSinfo, participating in international SIGNIS training programmes, and serving as a jury member at the Don Bosco Global Youth Film Festival.
Sharing her joy after receiving the honour, Sr. Euginia thanked her collaborators and supporters, noting that the award is both a recognition of past service and an encouragement to continue the communication mission in the Northeast.
This year, the Northeast region was represented at SINA 2026 by the dioceses of Agartala, Aizawl, Dibrugarh, Itanagar, FMA Shillong, and NESCOM.
The recognition comes at a time when SIGNIS membership in the Northeast is witnessing renewed efforts toward revival and active participation in the national communication network.
The Lifetime Achievement Award, now in its second edition, honours individuals with sustained contributions to Catholic media. The inaugural recipient in 2025 was Fr. Joseph Manickathan of the Diocese of Dibrugarh.
