Guwahati, March 21, 2026: The first batch of nursing students of Krick and Bourry Nursing School, Injan, Diocese of Miao in Arunachal Pradesh holds Lamp Lighting Ceremony today.
The ceremony was attended by Hon’ble MLA Shri Kamlung Mosang, officials of the local administration including ADC and EAC Miao, representatives from Kharsang and Namphai, and Bishop George Palliparambil of Miao.
The event marks the fulfilment of a long-standing dream of the Diocese of Miao to promote healthcare education in the region. The institution is named in memory of Servants of God Nicolas Michel Krick and Augustine Etienne Bourry, the first missionaries associated with the region.
The two French missionaries of the Paris Foreign Missions Society entered the region in the mid-nineteenth century with the intention of reaching Tibet. They were martyred in 1854 at Somme village, leaving behind a lasting witness of faith and missionary commitment.
Bishop George Palliparambil has been actively promoting the cause of these early missionaries, whose arrival marked the first encounter of the region with Christianity. Their legacy continues to inspire the Church’s mission in Arunachal Pradesh.
The Krick and Bourry Nursing School reflects this continuing mission of service, especially in the field of healthcare and human development.
Church leaders expressed appreciation to the Sacred Heart Sisters for undertaking this initiative and contributing to the mission of the Church through education and service.
The Diocese of Miao currently serves a population of over 6.4 lakh people, of which around 98,600 Catholics across 27 parishes.
