Mizoram, November 30, 2025 — General Vijay Kumar Singh, the 16th Governor of Mizoram, expressed deep appreciation for the Catholic Church’s remarkable contributions during the conclusion of its centenary celebrations in the state. A former Chief of Army Staff and seasoned statesman, Governor Singh commended the Church’s enduring faith, compassion, and service, while encouraging innovative evangelization through modern technology.
Describing the centenary as “a sacred moment to remember, reflect, and rejoice in the glory of our Lord,” he paid tribute to the courageous missionaries who first brought the Gospel to Mizoram’s challenging terrain. Beyond spiritual guidance, they pioneered education, healthcare, and social upliftment. Quoting Psalm 126:3 — “The Lord has done great things for us, and we are filled with joy” — he noted that the Church’s legacy is visible in vibrant communities, schools, and institutions serving the poor.
Governor Singh praised the Church as a pillar of Mizoram’s spiritual and social harmony — a “house of faith,” “home of love,” “school of character,” and “sanctuary of service.” Citing Matthew 5:14, he called the Catholic community “a shining city set on a hill.” Referencing 1 Corinthians 16:14, he emphasized that all service must be rooted in love and honoured missionaries, priests, religious, elders, families, and youth who sustained the faith through generations.
Highlighting Mizoram’s distinct Christian identity, he credited the Church for strengthening peace, unity, youth development, and inter-church harmony. Looking ahead, he urged the faithful to strengthen youth formation, deepen biblical literacy, nurture families as “domestic churches,” and embrace digital platforms for evangelization.
Quoting Jeremiah 29:11, he affirmed a hopeful future for the Church. In a lighter moment, he humorously remarked, “You came a bit late, but you’ve done extremely well,” drawing applause.
He concluded with the blessing from Numbers 6:24–26 and extended congratulations to Bishop Stephen Rotluanga, Auxiliary Bishop Joachim Walder, and the Diocese of Aizawl.
The celebration was attended by Chief Minister Lalduhoma, Education Minister Dr. Vanlalthlana, Apostolic Nuncio Archbishop Leopoldo Girelli, several Archbishops and Bishops of the Northeast, and NEIRBC Deputy Secretary Fr. Dr. G. P. Amal Raj.
