Guwahati, February 26, 2026: The Holy See Press Office has announced on 25 February that Pope Leo XIV will undertake three Apostolic Journeys in the coming months: a one-day visit to the Principality of Monaco on March 28; a ten-day pastoral journey to Africa from April 13–23; and a six-day visit to Spain, including the Canary Islands, from June 6–12.
The African journey will include visits to Algeria, Cameroon, Angola and Equatorial Guinea. In Algeria, the Holy Father will travel to Algiers and Annaba, associated with the legacy of Saint Augustine of Hippo. He will then visit Yaoundé, Bamenda and Douala in Cameroon; Luanda, Muxima and Saurimo in Angola; and Malabo, Mongomo and Bata in Equatorial Guinea.
The visit to Cameroon will include the Anglophone region in the north of the country, which has experienced prolonged internal tensions. The journey is expected to emphasize pastoral closeness, peace and solidarity with local Churches, particularly in areas facing social and economic challenges.
On March 28, Pope Leo XIV will make a day visit to the Principality of Monaco. The visit follows invitations extended by the civil authorities. Monaco, where Catholicism is the State religion, maintains an established collaboration between Church and civil institutions. This will be the first papal visit to the Principality in the modern era.
From June 6–12, the Holy Father will visit Spain, beginning in Madrid and continuing to Barcelona. In Barcelona, he will inaugurate the newest tower of the Basilica of the Sagrada Familia. The visit coincides with the centenary of the death of Antoni Gaudí, who was declared Venerable Servant of God in 2025. The Pope will then travel to the Canary Islands, visiting Tenerife and Gran Canaria.
The Holy Father’s journeys will bring him to countries with diverse religious, cultural and social contexts, including regions marked by migration flows and pastoral challenges. Through these visits, Pope Leo XIV continues his ministry of strengthening local Churches, fostering peace and encouraging dialogue across nations.
