Guwahati, March 5, 2026: Pope Leo XIV has announced his prayer intention for the month of March, inviting Catholics around the world to pray “for disarmament and peace” and that “the nuclear threat may never again dictate the future of humanity.”
The intention was released through The Pope Video, an initiative of the Pope’s Worldwide Prayer Network that shares the Holy Father’s monthly prayer intentions with the global Church.
In his message, Pope Leo reminded the faithful that God created humanity for communion and fraternity, not for conflict and destruction. “You who greeted your disciples saying, ‘Peace be with you,’ grant us the gift of your peace and the strength to make it a reality in history,” the Pope prayed.
Reflecting on the present global situation, he urged nations to reject violence and choose dialogue and diplomacy. The Holy Father called on people to pray that leaders may have the courage to abandon the arms race and instead promote justice, solidarity, and the protection of human life.
“Today we lift up our prayer for peace in the world, asking that nations renounce weapons and choose the path of dialogue and diplomacy,” the Pope said.
He also invited the faithful to begin with personal conversion, asking God to “disarm our hearts of hatred, resentment, and indifference” so that believers may become instruments of reconciliation.
Pope Leo stressed that true security does not come from fear or control but from trust, justice, and cooperation among peoples. He prayed that world leaders may place the lives of the most vulnerable at the centre of their decisions and work to halt the arms race.
“May the nuclear threat never again dictate the future of humanity,” he said.
The Pope concluded by asking the Holy Spirit to help Christians become faithful builders of peace in everyday life, through gestures of reconciliation, dialogue, and compassion within families, communities, and society.
The Pope’s Worldwide Prayer Network, which promotes these monthly intentions, is a pontifical work entrusted to the Society of Jesus. Founded in 1844 as the Apostleship of Prayer, it seeks to mobilize Catholics worldwide to respond through prayer and action to the challenges facing humanity and the mission of the Church.
