Pope Leo XIV has appointed Sister Nina Benedikta Krapić, M.V.Z., as the new Deputy Director of the Holy See Press Office. The appointment was announced on Friday in the daily Bulletin of the Press Office. She will assume her new role on 1 March 2026.

Sr. Krapić succeeds Cristiane Murray, who has stepped down after serving in the position since July 2019. Murray was received in audience by the Pope on Friday morning prior to the official announcement.

A member of the Congregation of the Sisters of Charity of St. Vincent de Paul, Sr. Krapić has been serving as an official of the Dicastery for Communication since 2023. Her appointment reflects continued efforts within the Vatican to strengthen institutional communication and public engagement.

Born in Rijeka, Croatia, on 7 June 1989, Sr. Krapić earned a degree in Law from the University of Rijeka in 2015. She later completed a specialization in Public Relations at the University of Zagreb in 2023. She made her perpetual vows on 13 August 2023.

Before her service in the Dicastery for Communication, Sr. Krapić worked as a journalist and as a legal advisor assisting women affected by domestic violence and other marginalized individuals. She also served as head of communications for Caritas of the Archdiocese of Rijeka. Currently, she is pursuing a doctorate in Social Sciences at the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome.

Commenting on the transition, Paolo Ruffini, Prefect of the Dicastery for Communication, expressed gratitude to Murray for her “dedication and professionalism” and extended best wishes to Sr. Krapić, expressing confidence in her professional competence and personal qualities.

The appointment comes at a time when effective communication remains central to the Church’s engagement with the global faithful, including communities across Northeast India who closely follow developments from the Holy See.
