Guwahati, May 9, 2026:
A moving session titled “Women Empowering Other Women” marked one of the highlights of the Fourth Northeast Women’s Conference organised by the Women’s Commission of the Northeast India Regional Bishops’ Council (NEIRBC) at Jubilee Hall, NEDSSS, Guwahati, on Saturday.
Designed as a platform for testimony and mutual encouragement, the session invited women delegates from dioceses across Northeast India to share touching personal success stories of resilience, and empowerment.
Each participant was initially allotted two minutes to narrate experiences of struggle, resilience leadership and service, while a panel evaluated the presentations, followed by felicitation.
Moderated by conference organisers, the session witnessed emotional and inspiring testimonies from women representing three archdioceses and 12 dioceses in Northeast India.
The sharing reflected how women’s commissions at diocesan and parish levels have become spaces of personal transformation, leadership formation and community service.
One participant from Imphal Archdiocese narrated how caring for an elderly Muslim woman during her mother’s hospitalisation became a powerful lesson in compassion beyond religious boundaries.
She recalled how simple acts of care and conversation transformed strained family relationships and reinforced the Christian call to see Christ in everyone, especially those suffering.
Another participant shared her journey from hardship and personal suffering to becoming a source of encouragement for hundreds of women through prayer groups and women-led initiatives in her locality.
Her testimony highlighted how perseverance and community support can become instruments of empowerment.
Women leaders from Tura, Nongstoin and other dioceses spoke of overcoming fear, self-doubt and social limitations through their involvement in the Women’s Commission.
Several testified that participation in diocesan programmes had strengthened their confidence in public speaking, leadership and social engagement, while enabling them to support vulnerable women, families and youth in their communities.
The testimonies also revealed concrete initiatives undertaken by women, including visiting elderly persons, supporting struggling families, guiding youth, promoting parish participation and organising women’s gatherings for spiritual and social formation.
The atmosphere remained deeply participatory, with applause, encouragement and moments of joy accompanying the stories.
To foster fellowship and celebration, the session included interactive moments and cultural engagement, creating a spirit of enthusiasm among participants.
Organisers noted that the sharing session aimed not merely at recognising achievements but at encouraging women to inspire one another through lived experiences of courage and service.
The session concluded with felicitation of participants and words of appreciation, reaffirming the conference theme, “Empowered Women in Service and Unity.”
